I dont think so as MCE contains extras and should at least have the same common controls etc as Windows XP Home. What IDE are you going to use to develop?
VB Studio 6.0.
The reason I ask is because I just ordered a Dell Inspiron 640m Dual Core. The Windows XP Pro is extra.
I am tempted to upgrade a lot of things. I did it at the Dell Kiosk at the mall and I got the Netgear Wireless N Router but the Sales rep didnt give me the corresponding Wireless Network card for that Router...not good eh
Should be fine but not sure if media center supports IIS. Maybe upgrade to pro if you can as home doesnt support IIS and not sure if MCE does or not.
Thanks man I'll look into the IIS compatability
If you dont plan on doing any web development then IIS may not be that important.
found this on the Microsoft website
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e..._ez_media.mspx
seems IIS is compatable Windows XP Media Center Edition
Ah good find. Also note that you can not have it join a domain. So if you are planniung a network with a domain then it cant be added.
Basically, half of XP Pro and half of XP Home editions.
MCE is Pro, with a few addons. There are 2 ways to connect to a domain in MCE. THe easiest way is during setup, windows will ask if you want to connect to a domain. That's the easiest. The more difficult way requires using a Windows PE environment to change a registry setting.
The reason that microsoft turned off the domain capabilities in MCE is because to connect to an MCE Extender it requires Fast User Switching. But you can't use Fast User Switching if domain capabilities are turned on. If you need directions on how to connect to a domain using the more involved method, I can post them.
