You can use most C++ compilers. You can get the Borland compiler for free from their website.
What country are you in?
Microsoft so a student licensing you pay £80 and fill out a form, send it off. They then send you visual studio minus a box and manuals (they can be brought seperately)

I have heard, that you can't compile the programs with the student version....is this true???
