vb6 project references to excel
hi everyone,
i'm fairly new to vb6 but do have some vba knowledge.
i read with interest the lengthy article on this site about running excel from vb6. the article discusses and recommends the use of application object variables yet i have found that by simply setting exel project refrences i can happily open/manipulate workbooks without using a variable. is this approach wrong or inefficient?

Welcome to the forums.
Give me a "fur instance" of handling excel objects without the use of a variable.
Re: vb6 project references to excel
As Hack posted, its all about how you intend to use it. If its for your own personal use on one system where you wont be upgrading Excel for a while then setting a reference is ok (Early Binding is how its called).
If your going to be distributing it or other users will be using different versions of Excel then by all means you should be using Late Binding where you dont set a reference and declare all your Excel objects As Object.
See post #2 and #2 for example comparisons on Early/Late Binding in Office application automation.
