[RESOLVED] Need some help with upgrading

Everyone,

I am currently working with vb6 but I would like to upgrade to the latest and greatest version of vb. However, I am not sure what to go to. I know the vb.net is newer but is it the lastest? Also what about visual studio? It looks like visual studio has several different languages in it but I am having trouble finding info that compares and contrasts vb.net and visual studio.

If anyone has a recomendation I would appreciate it. In terms of what type of programming I will be doing, I do a lot of database work and I would like to start getting into PDA software. I think this last requirement forces me to visual studio but again, I am not sure.

Any recomendations would be helpful

Just to clear this, Visual Studio is a name for complete package (like Office is for Excel, Word...) for VB, C#, J++... and it existed before .NET - VB6 is a part of one.

so where should I go visual studio.net pro or just get a copy of vb.net? Are there any differences between the vb.net in the visual suite vs. the stand alone?

You can get a free version of Visual Studio 2005 from M$. If you don't need the pro version... They have a comparison chart at M$ also. Visual Studio 2005 (VB2005) is the latest iteration.

Does anyone know if Visual Studio 2005 includes vb.net? Everywhere I look it just says that it includes VB but does go into if its the .net version or not. I would expect it to be since the 2005 seems to be the newest version of visual studio, but could someone confirm this?

Yes it is .Net.. for some reason MS has dropped the ".Net" part of the name from its products (including Visual Studio itself), which creates a fair amount of confusion.

Thanks si I just want to be sure that if I lay out $300 bucks that I am getting what I want.
