You are not planning to spam "several thousand" of innocent recipients, are you?
If you have members that you need to send mass emails out to then its best practice to mention on your members site for them to allow your domain name in the trusted or white list of their email spam filter clients. ;)
This is the practice we use here on our forums as its more unethical to try to bypass spam filters for them.
Rob, that's a good idea but like most projects around here I got this one REAL late in the game. The mailing is going out Monday requesting the members email address along with some other info. We are working with the Feds on this so i can't strop the process to add verbiage to the mailing.
Do you think it's possible to register with companies like Hotmail and Gmail?
If you send out thousands of emails to people that did not already give you permission to email them, then you are spamming.
To avoid spamming, you need to only send to people who have 'opted' to receive your message. If you do send thousands of emails to people that did not opt into receiving them, then you may be violating spamming laws.
Having said that -
To avoid spam/bulk filters, you need to ask those that opt in to put your email address into their contacts. If sites like yahoo or hotmail see lots of emails from the same source, then chances are, you are going straight to bulk mail folders....
My advice - if you are not sure if the list is an opt in list and the plan is to send thousands..... remove your hands from the keyboard and step back from the computer......
Brad!
The list is going to be 100% opt in. People are requesting that we send them info about our insurance product. These people are already members with us and will be providing us with their addresses.
Trust me, if I would have known about this project from the start I would have asked that the proper verbiage be added to the letter the member will be getting.
Having done something like this (yes, it was legit, all opt-in).... Ah... strike that... I'll PM you with what we've done.
