Most bang for buck MB/CPU?
I'm about 3 years overdue for a hardware upgrade (still using an old Athlon 1800+). I'm looking for the best cost/performance combo (looking to spend about $4-500 on the cpu and mb). I'm thinking dual core would be nice, and I'm more interested in a bullet-proof than feature rich motherboard. I've been looking at the AMD 64 X2 line. Any suggestions?
Re: Most bang for buck MB/CPU?
I ended up buying an HP 1430 because it was cheaper than building my own dual core 64 bit.

Core 2 Duo E6400 & Gigabyte 965p-DS3 board, probably the best bang for the buck around, not sure on US prices though i'm afraid.

You know I'm a geek when the thing that stands out about the motherboard are the solid caps. Looks like the Core 2s really came down in price here. I wasn't even thinking Intel because their price point has always been comparatively high. I could probably do this MB with an E6600 for under $500. Thanks for the heads up.
