Retrieve files from device?

Hi all,
is there an easy way to reach for files on the device from a desktop application? I just need a way to get a file from the mobile programatically.

I've searched for solutions, but they always discuss rather lengthy API theories and end up with demonstrating nothing.

Can't I use the "Mobile Device" drive found in Windows Explorer after connecting with ActiveSync?

What I haven't searched, was this forum. It seems that www.opennetcf.org has exactly what I need.

This thing is only needed by Visual Studio right? I mean, I don't have to install / register any files on the device?
