Hi everyone.
Could someone please tell me "typical symptons" of a Processor on its wayout.
Is thier away to check.
The the fan area is getting very hot all the time,even after a good clean .
the laptop freezers at the bios, and when I can get in to windows it freezers after about 3 mins .
Then it can take hours before it will boot up.
I getting no beeps

could be several things, though heat is never good for any electronic devices.
you may want to try examining/replacing the ram to see if that helps any.
It may already be too late. I had a similar experience once... burned out the processor w/o realizing it. If you can, pull the fan off and the processor. On the underside, opposite where the chip itself resides.... look to see if you notice a faint (And I mean faint) brown smudging.... if so... time to pop for a new processor & fan.

I tryed new RAM no luck ,the chip looking ok now browning .
Its a catch 22 if I buy a new chip costing 60 quid/bucks it could be a mobo component.
I need to find out my problem for sure.

can u control the clocking in the bios?
check your bios to make sure nothing changed.. I used to have a pc that ever so often would decide it had a faster or slower chip in and it would change it on boot..
ranged from 1.6GHz ro 1.0 Ghz (it was a 1.2 so when it went over.. it would freeze)
No i havent overclocked. bios reging the right speed. I did notice in device manager it was saying the processor was 850 at one point instead of a 1.6, but that comes and goes..?

chips running too hot and freezing. My assumption is that you have no heat alarm on the motherboard.
1. Check the fan is working and you also have it on the right way round (easy mistake to make, but a common one...)
2. Check the processor is firmly fixed in the motherboard. and check any case fans to see if its expelling air.
3. Thoroughly clean any white dust residue off the processor and heatsink to bring the temparature down.
this is all that i can think of.

Make sure you have adequate thermal goop applied. Cover the whole area of the chip so that none of it comes into direct contact with the heatsink. If you have a heatspreader (big metal cover over the chip) cover all of that so that the heat transfer is efficient.
Arctic Silver or anything silver makes a decent thermal paste. If you get the cheapo white stuff then be prepared to pull the rig apart every few months and re-apply goop because it will all melt off to the sides and your temperatures will start going skywards. The silver stuff sticks and forms a slight bond between chip/heatspreader and heatsink so you shouldn't have that problem.

I will try the paste .
But I find hard to believe that the processor wont give me enough time to check my bios under cold conditions. and then when it feels like lets me in to Windows.

When I press the power button, I can here the cd rom and the harddrive
But nothing happins from there, this can go on for ages then suddendly it boots up and im in Windows, sometimes 3 mins ,sometimes lately 30 mins, But then frezzers.
