Printer Online?

Does anyone know how to get the "online" status of a printer?

It seems that i try to print to either a network or local printer, and if the printer is offline, then the printing suspends, and an icon appears on the taskbar. This is fine for experienced users, but for my application the users don't know much about computers. It would help if my program had a way of knowing if the printer is online, and if not (paper out, or something like that) the printing will resume when the status of the printer returns to online.

Any help would be appreciated.
