Setting up SQL Server

I just install SQL Server 2005, made a test database with one table, then made an app to connect and simply display the table in a datagrid, but i get the following error message:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

Now, i went into the "SQL Server Surface Area Configuration" and allowed remote connects, but im still getting the message. Any ideas?

Im still having this problem if anyone can help.

I don't think many of us have enough experience with MS SQL 2005 yet to offer real help.

I've got it installed on a server here - can connect with no problems.

I've got it installed at a customer site and cannot get my VB apps to connect to it.
