Reload the operating system from disk.
XP? XP PRO? Win2000?
I think it's XP, or XP Pro.. I really can't tell you which. I thought about reloading from disk, but that takes a while.
would a repair installation work?

these are password cracker/recovery tools... its only illegal if u are using them to hack a pc which is not yours.
no a repair wont... the only method without using a "cracker" would be a full re-install.
that first link that I post has some alternat method.. never tried it.. but give it a read.
There are legitimate programs out there to recover the Admin password for windows. What they do is replace a file during the setup installation to fool Windows into thinking its a fresh/new install and use a blank password for the Admin account. google NTAccess 1.5 Its what I have used. Its good and not too expensive. It is secure as you need to have physical access to the system in order to place a floppy or boot cd in.
u can do this
boot up your system with dos from a floppy
navigate to c:\windows\system32\config
delete the file sam (with no extension)
restart normally
u should be able to login
p.s: i do this all the time with my college systems ;) and it works, provided the file system is fat32
else u could use ntfs dos from sysinternals.com to access if its in ntfs
the above trick works for windows 2000 only...
u can try lc3 or

Are you trying to access the Administrator account or a user created account? If you are trying to access the Administrator account, you are SOL but if its a user created account, you can login as Adminstrator and just reset the password.
Boot your pc to safe mode, then use administrator account. Reset your password.
