Reference Material
Hello, I was wondering if someone could post back some reference material sites, book names, or other good tidbits of information on .net applications for PDAs.
I am familiar with .net but not with PDAs, so I figured you all could provide some references.
I found: "The Definitative Guide to .Net Compact frameword by Roof and Fergus
Thanks,

Re: Reference Material
That's the one I would recommend for general PDA programming. There's another I use as a reference for SQL Server CE: SQL Server CE Database Development with the .NET Compact Framework by Tiffany.

Re: Reference Material
Thanks guys, that will get me off to a great start.
Now one more question so that I can sound total stupid (I am good at that  )
What actual tools to I need to get started. In otherwords do I need to go out and buy myself a PDA? (I have a palm 3 in a box but it is a bit out dated)
I have visual studio do I need something else? In otherwords do I need to buy any additional software?

Re: Reference Material
Well, I think that materials to begin is not more than
-- a programming tool ( for example, C#) "which I myself like and use".
and concerning buying a PCC is really not that important, what's bad with the emmulator comes with Visual Studio.NET as a start??

Re: Reference Material
I'd go with a PDA over the emulator if you can. The emulator in VB.NET is really pretty good, but it isn't quite the same thing. I can't find it at the moment, but one of the references I had, which was written by the owner of a company, wrote that all of his employees were REQUIRED to carry a PDA with them at all times, just because they needed to be using them to understand the strengths and weaknesses of them. I'd say that's good advice.

Re: Reference Material
I am with u of course, but i meant that it is ok at the begining to use emulator but after that and when you are so in,,a PPC is a must, not only preferable.

Re: Reference Material
yes i agree that the emulator is a good starting point, the only thing to be aware of is that you need to have some sort of network connection to use it, i.e: plugged into a LAN, Hub, Switch or else have a loopback adapter setup on your pc (http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/e..._loopback.html)
But you can only get so far using the emulator so for learning purposes start off with the emulator but when developing applications for clients used the a device with pocket pc or windows ce OS
