Ever had one of those situations...
I hate scripted languages.
...where you try to fix a problem in your code, and you spend HOURS on it, only to find out that the problem was a spelling mistake, or an incorrect function call in a place you never expected it to be.
I hate scripted languages.
The worst part, is at the end of it when you feel like a complete idiot (as opposed to being a 95% idiot).
I hate scripted languages.

Re: Ever had one of those situations...
I have those errors all the time....don't believe it?...well, I can in fact have spelling errors. Even me..:)
Like two days ago. I wrote a harvester that was going to harvest 1500+ files. And I told my boss they where all down the morning after. But when I got to work, I saw I had made a spelling error for one function that is more or less never called. So it didn't show up in testing. So at work the day after we where only 10% done..:D...*I told my boss it was their site that was down...true*

Re: Ever had one of those situations...
Something like that, yes.
Lucky me, my friend here brought a pack of MDs for me from her trip to Chicago, without which I would still be at work 2 hours from now.
What you need is a secretary who works at an MD factory.

Re: Ever had one of those situations...
I had to add a DNS connection to a computer the other day. One of the easiest things I do on a day to day basis. For some reason, it wouldn't work. I spent half an hour checing everything on that computer. I even checked the ODBC and it said tht the test completed successfully so I was baffled and had the network admin look at it. Turns out I spelled the name of it wrong. I was feeling kinda sheepish. :(

Don't you mean a DSN connection? Looks like you are still spelling it wrong

Re: Ever had one of those situations...
What's MD. The only thing that comes to mind is Mad Dog, but I always figured your tastes were better than that.

Re: Ever had one of those situations...
OMG, you "arn't" a programmer, are you? I bet you "program" fish.... Mt Dew is the one and only programming soda out there. And no desk with a computer looks complete without them.

My desk the night before I packed up my stuff and left Bergen (Norway) for "good"....:(

Re: Ever had one of those situations...
Oh yeah, forgot about that, but it has nothing to do with programming. I happen to be immune to caffeine (spelling courtesy of NoteMe). Just to prove that, I drank two double shots of espresso, and a Starbucks frapuccino, and fell asleep in an unseemly fifteen minutes.
Actually, there was a case where the drug affected me, but it was after I had eaten at least a pound of chocolate covered coffee beans during a stats seminar. By the end of that time, I was mildly stoned....and we shan't say more about how it all came out (if you get my meaning).

Re: Ever had one of those situations...
The caffein (coffin...:D) is not affecting me either. But my mood raises, and I can suddenly spell in 15 diffrent languages. Non oraly spoken..:)
-
Re: Ever had one of those situations...
I can see that, some of your posts look like they ARE spelled in 15 different languages

Re: Ever had one of those situations...
Je sono en grosse nerd. Du er ein perkele.
French, Italian, Norwegian, German (SP?), English. Svedish, Danish, New Norwegian, Finish.
:) Close??
-
Re: Ever had one of those situations...
Cool! I can barely muddle through reading French, can't write or speak it at all.
-
Re: Ever had one of those situations...
You learn a bit if you live in a country where one of the 3 languages are French...:) And I litteraly cross the boarder to France every time I am at work an meed to go to the loo (SP=)..::) But I prefere Italian though. Much closer to Norwegian, and the girls are cuter..:) Should learn some spanish for the same reason I guess...:)

And how often do you drink that water?
-
Re: Ever had one of those situations...
What water? Frankly, I stay away from most of the caffinated beverages, but only because they come with loads of empty calories. I get so many calories anyways that I sure don't need any empty ones. As it is, I work out like twice a day so that I can eat in the manner to which I am accustomed.

I realized caffiene was not for me when i drank a tall glass of frapuccino and i got high with that. :S i was mildly disoriented when i got home. Almost felt like I drank a couple shots of alcohol, the only difference was that I definitely had trouble sleeping.
Now, when i go out to a coffee shop with friends, i usually just go for milk, hot or cold hehehehe

Re: Ever had one of those situations...
Coffee Effect on me... Laughable, i'd still be out within a few minutes if i wanted to be...
Nothing really stops me sleeping, apart from the other day where nothing actually DID stop me sleeping :O

Re: Ever had one of those situations...
am i the only one here with caffeine problems?

You're probably just not used to it, or are a little smaller than us... OR, have a better diet.
I don't get affected, maybe you have my effects as well?
-
Re: Ever had one of those situations...
by "better diet" what do you mean?
-
Re: Ever had one of those situations...
I dunno, maybe you eat more natural foods and as such are more affected by Caffeine.
Or of course the other way round.

Actually, that sounds quite normal. Since you stay away from it, you have a low tolerance, but in moderate doses, you wouldn't get so high, and might find that it useful. Most people drink it for the stimulant effect you noted. Is there an office without beaucoup coffee? It's just because lots of people can't wake up without it. I had a boss once who was addicted to it. If he didn't have an MD (now I'm hip) by 9:00, he'd get a severe headache and become somewhat non-functional. Classic withdrawal.
I have heard that those of us who are immune actually have some kind of disorder, something like ADHD. Of course it must be in some mild form, because I have no problem focusing on.....what was I talking about. Oh well, it can't matter much. Coffee tastes good, but so does pie. I suppose it depends on what kind of pie, but I tend to like pretty much all pie, even meat pie. Had some really good pork yesterday, and the burgers were pretty good too. Oh yeah, I think I was talking about ADHD, sounds like the highway department out here, but I guess that's ACHD, which is pretty close, and except for that H, could be a hexadecimal number. Well, gotta go mow the lawn now.
