Word Macro

I have a word document that I am trying to record a macro for. When I click the record button the pointer changes to one with a cassette tape next to it and then I cant click on anything. It wont let me select anything or do anything until I stop the recording.

Any Ideas?

When you move your cursor over the menu, the cassette should disappear. Is that not the case?

It does change. That is what is so wierd. It behaves just like normal except I cant click anything on my documnet.
