[Serious]I'm resigning from work
Guys can I have your suggestions on proper resigning in one's company? Is it fine if I'll just e-mail the President with my resignation letter or do I have to tender it personally? It's just that I am hesitant to give my letter personally, I don't want talks, and my I.T. Manager may go against my resignation, he don't have the slightest clue that I am already planning of leaving. I have been offered with a slightly smaller rate (againts my current rate in the company) in my home province though I'd work half-day only and expense is not that much in the province against living here in the City...
The only drawback I can find right now is that I may not be able to go here that much... :(
What's your opinion guys?

Re: [Serious]I'm resigning from work
It's a typical story that happens alot. They should be prepared. You have to look out for yourself and not care how they'll take it. If you're not, no one is.
(US Policy)
Usually, you have to give a written 2 week's notice and both of you need to sign it. Also, make sure you have a copy as well; never hurts, just incase. I have a feeling that your boss will take it pretty well. Just be honest with them when they ask why you left. If you stress that the reason is because you're closer to your home, they'll understand.

Re: [Serious]I'm resigning from work
I believe you should give your resignation to your immediate manager on a paper rather than going to company president ...

Re: [Serious]I'm resigning from work
I had to make a big decision like this a couple months ago. I informed my immediate boss and team leader personally before I sent the email out to all the 'official' people.
You've been working with your boss and team leader for quite some time now, so it's only fair that you tell them that you're leaving, that you've made your mind up (to avoid persuasion to stay), and that you wanted to let them know before you sent the email out.

Re: [Serious]I'm resigning from work
Thanks guys.
I've thought of telling my immediate boss but somehow I am inclined to think that he may go against it since (not to brag) I have been handy in the development of our system, I did most of the modules. I don't want to entertain negotiations if I can.

Do not do this. I think mendhak was stressing that point with the bold font, but after you say you're going to leave; do it. No matter what. If they offer you an increase or whatever perk, don't take it. You're on the chopping block as first to go if/when downsizing comes around. All the necessary precautions of you leaving will be in place within a week of you rejoining the team.
Not to mention, the work relationships take a hhhhuuuugggeeee hit. Your boss won't be so trusting anymore.

Re: [Serious]I'm resigning from work
Yeah, what he said. It's like... you shouldn't burn your bridges. You can never know when you need a helping hand from them. I did this at my previous job (told them first), and their opinion of me helped me in landing the job I'm at right now.

Re: [Serious]I'm resigning from work
Make it clear that there will no discussion. Just SAY it. "I'm going, it's final, I've made up my mind so I'd appreciate that there's no discussion".
If you're certain to leave, do it and don't fret about it. And never ever care what they have to say about it. After all, friendship and work relationships mean nothing when it matters. They will gleefully fire you without hesitation if needed, with or without being very good friends with you.
Always remember that.

Well get going then dee-u. :)
I hope what you do is for the best especially for personal development. :) and yeah it's tough to be away from home. ;) less expense too when you live with parents, though in my case it's the exact opposite, well at least I have a jester at my own disposal ;). Sometimes I become too boring hahaha.
Good Luck!

Re: [Serious]I'm resigning from work
Don't waste tiome thinking too hard about this. If it feels right just get it over with. The sooner you can start thinking about getin a new job the better, the less stressed you will be and the better choices you will make.

I have to agree here. Don't ever tell your boss you're leaving unless you really are. And once you've made that statement there's no going back. The potential backlash is far too heavy.

Re: [Serious]I'm resigning from work
You said you'd be working a half day at the new job? What the hell are you waiting for? Next time your boss looks in on you, he should only see an empty chair spinning and a cloud of dust trailing to the door.

Re: [Serious]I'm resigning from work
Sleep with the boss and then write a note about you leaving, and if he should tell anyone you will reveal your night of passion to his wife and work collegues :afrog:
or just write out a simple resignation letter and hand it in with the biggest grin ever

Did you not notice that although the day and month are very similar to now, the year indicates that this is a 2-yr old thread.
if you need me to repeat that more slowly, just ask. ;)

How about you don't double post. ;)
-
Re: [Serious]I'm resigning from work
A strange double-post effect. when I submitted, it prompted for username and pwd, then double-posted on me.
Who unbanned you, klegg?
