Here is a quote from Wikipedia, about Fonzie. I don't know how I stumbled upon it but here it is:

"Originally, according to ABC, Fonzie was supposed to wear sweaters, except when he was around his motorcycle. So, the producers of Happy Days put Fonzie around his motorcycle all the time so that he could wear the leather jacket all the time."

Why couldn't he just wear the jacket all the time? Is there a law that you can only wear a leather jacket if you are with a motorcycle? I haven't seen the show, but is Fonzie ever in a house? What do they do then, have him park his motorcycle in the living room???

I watched it a bit when I was a kid (it was being shown the 3rd time round I've been told!), and only rarely saw him near the motorcycle... He was always wearing the leather jacket.


Therefore the answer to you question is the final option.. me for knowing the truth :ehh:

Not so much a law as it is an unwritten rule. Try looking at any TV show or movie today and you'll always see people in leather jackets only if they're near motorcycles, but not at home. Away from the bike, they'll be holding the jacket at max, but not wearing it. You could call it TV-superstition, for fear of the character appearing rowdy, a bad influence or homosexual by constantly being in a leather jacket

It's just one of those things... that I just made up.

I have a leather jacket but no bike. I bought the jacket about 4 years ago and its now about 6 sizes to big for me.

It repels the women like a charm.
