Re: System Manufacture/model
Your talking about the system board info or info like when you have bought a HP/Compaq or Del system?
-
Re: System Manufacture/model
Yea i have a dell an it says
System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
System Model: Dimension XPS
but my friend says nothing its all blank can you change it to something else.

Re: System Manufacture/model
It may not be possible then unless you wiped out your system and reloaded it from a full version windows cd and not the restore cd image as that image will probably also have the same info on it. It may be a small utility with the dell dagnostics running as a service watching for when you bring up the dialog, it would subclass it and add the button and system information. Doubtful that it can be modified unless reloaded like mentioned.

Re: System Manufacture/model
Did you get it to work for the support link and logo? It doesnt seem to show that info on my system but the other does.

Re: System Manufacture/model
Last time I used it 3-4 years ago on Win98. Now, I have tested it on Windows Server 2003. It works.
May be this guide will help you : http://www.petri.co.il/change_or_add...nformation.htm

Re: System Manufacture/model
I just couldnt get the image to show. I guess the link is just supposed to be text and not a working link. I used to have a Compaq system at work and it had a link to their site on the manufacturer lines.
I'll try a 96x96 bmp instead of the 120 I was using.

Re: System Manufacture/model

Re: System Manufacture/model
I found many posts regarding the SupportURL problem. Some people says it is problem of SP.
I'll try it on Win98 and let you know.
BTW, here is the original KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314472/EN-US/

Re: System Manufacture/model
I even tried your avatar image as a bmp and still nothing. Oh well.
-
Re: System Manufacture/model
Did you changed it to 256 color and saved it in System32 folder as "OEMLOGO.BMP" ?
-
Re: System Manufacture/model
Yes, except it was 32 bit color depth. Ill try a 256 right now.
-
Re: System Manufacture/model
It will work only with 256 color images.
-
Re: System Manufacture/model
I tried 96x96 1 bit color depth and in the system32 folder named as LOGO.BMP and still nothing. Forget it. Too much trouble for this. The specs and support button are good enough I guess.
Thanks :)

Re: System Manufacture/model
1) The image should be 96x96 pixels (doesn't matter much)
2) The image should be saved in your System folder with 256 color depth as "OEMLOGO.BMP".
3) There must be a OEMINFO.INI file in your system folder with atleast the following lines:
Code:
[General]
Manufacturer=abcd
Otherwise the pic will not show.

Re: System Manufacture/model
No dice still.
96x96 256 colors logo.bmp in the system32 dir.
oeminfo.ini file in same location.
[General]
Manufacturer = VB/Office Guru, Inc.
Model = Guru Edition
[Support Information]
Line1=VB/Office Guru, Inc.

Mine worked fine, I just did a google search on an XPS logo then edited it to be smaller so it would fit. :wave:

Re: System Manufacture/model
I haven't tried it, according to this page you can change picture of the monitor too.
Quote:
If you want to change the monitor picture too, you've got to modify "sysdm.cpl", in your system directory too. It's a 16-bit file within Win 95/98/Me, so you'll need eXeScope, a worthwhile shareware resource hacker (the freeware alternative doesn't do 16-bit files). Within Win 2k/XP it's a 32-bit file, so Resource Hacker will do; the .cpl is a non-protected file, so exchange is easy. More instructions here. Note on the palette: you'll need to stick to 16 colors, but these don't need to be the standard VGA colors, a custom palette will work.

Re: System Manufacture/model
Worked here as well.
Not even going to try the Monitor though, i think it looks ook without it :)

4.8GHz :D Dual core means the chip has 2 processors sandwiched together and connected in parallel. Think of it as RAID for CPUs.

Re: System Manufacture/model
And having the performance of a single 4.8?(if any)
