I'm looking to start the microsoft certification process, hopefully ending up with a MCSD.
The question is do I need VS.NET 2003 Pro ? I'm currently using VB.NET express 2005 and don't really want to spend money on 'old' software if I don't really need it.
It's not about owning VS 2003 or VS 2005. It's about your knowledge of the language and experience you have with it.
Since you want to do it for the 2.0 framework, you shouldn't look at MCSD, but should consider

If I decide to do the MSCD route will not owning vs 2003 pro be a big disadvantage, I'm assuming they are looking for a certain level of IDE proficiency and I'm not sure what the major differences between the 2003 and 2005 IDE's are.
