Why is there weight-lifting equipment in Prison?
Just a question. Doesn't make sense to me. And if I were to get sent to jail, I'd rather not have weight lifting be an option. How about just keeping me from getting raped as the amnenity instead of a weight lifting room that helps other people get strong enough to rape me?

Gee, maybe they should do away with showers too; you know... Just incase.
Come on, it's prison. They don't leave mints and a "how was your stay" card on your pillow.

I think asking not to be raped is an reasonable request.
And I'm arguing that prisoners shouldn't get amnetiies like weight lifting rooms.

Prison cells are small. It's inhumane and illegal to keep people in that kind of captivity without some form of fitness or health. Instead of building a track for them to run on (since that would take up valuable cell space), having a room with weightlifting equipment is the most financially and resourcefully viable solution.

Prisoners in some UAE prisons get to conduct business from computer labs, in the prison, with high-speed internet connections.
Re: Why is there weight-lifting equipment in Prison?
Most prisions have ammenities just like a health club. Maybe if it wasnt for getting raped all the time in prison there would be even more "members".
Re: Why is there weight-lifting equipment in Prison?
I can already hear the arguements. "Some prisons have courtyards" and "they're prisoners, why should we care about their comfort or health?"
A) Different prisons have different security levels. The one mendhak mentioned is probably for tax evading and insider trading.
B) We're in a new era where a criminal can break into your house, hurt himself, and then file suit against you. Prisoners have lawyers working around the clock for any reason to let them out. Keeping a standard up is crucial to keeping them captive.

I'm not arguing about court-yards. And running tracks are ok too, and they shouldn't be expensive to make, it shouldn't cost more to make than a weight lifting gym since most prisons are built in the middle of no-where so land should be cheap.
I'm just saying weight-lifting rooms is stupid. You don't want a violent person building muscle mass.
Only rich prisoners have lawyers working around the clock, and most prisoners are not rich.
Re: Why is there weight-lifting equipment in Prison?
That's just discrimination against people that end up in prison for whatever reason ;)
It's a basic human right that they should be able to maintain their health and fitness.
Re: Why is there weight-lifting equipment in Prison?
They should be able to build their fitness, through Cardiovascular excersise but I agree why let them build Muscle meaning if necessary they they are harder to restrain or control. In the olden days they used to have to live in a cold dungeon 24-7 except for Tuesdays when they go to the market square and let locals throw rotten veg at them, thats how it should be now (unless I end up in prison, and then I want my own room with tv and decent food and a olympic swimming pool, oo and days out to do adventure sports and swim with dolphins etc).
