[RESOLVED] 64 Bit Software?

Hello,
I have some more doubts regarding this 64 bit..
I got the windows XP 64 bit OS now...works perfect on my computer...
Softwares like Nero...do they make a significant difference running in 64 bit?
I use programming tools as well as multimedia softwares.
If I do video rendering using the existing softwares of Ulead,Nero,etc...Will I see a significant difference......OR should I wait for them to give a seperate 64 bit release?

In some websites,they say Nero now supports 64 bit technology.But its the same setup which works for the 32 bit as well.So,how can it make a difference on the 64 bit OS?

The difference is probably in the drivers. Windows x64 requires 64-bit drivers, and will prevent any 32-bit drivers from being installed. Most software will run since it's all user space stuff that can run under Windows on Windows, but stuff like packet sniffers, cd burners, etc, which need system-level drivers will need an explicit 64-bit version.

My advice is to wait for Windows Vista. With Windows Vista, a wave of 64-bit programs will be released because it will be the first major Windows version with full 64-bit support (Windows XP x64 is really only a in-between solution), and all your performance increases will occur around then, not now because there is really no demand for 64-bit consumer applications ATM.

So,for now,using them in windows XP 64 bit will make any difference?

It might make some difference, but I don't know of any major ones that are 64-bit compiled, they are all mostly 32-bit versions. You will see some improvement, but the major improvements are ones that are native 64-bit like what you'll see around the Vista time frame.

1 good reason to use win64 is that you'll be able to develope and test 64bit apps with VS 2005.
