Did you configure your network card and install the network protocols? Local Area Connection already created?
Make sure you turn off Simple File Sharing, its pointless in my opinion, but enabed by default... that could be your problem.. you get your regular options that you are used to once you turn it off... You can't even set up permissions on the shared files without turning it off...

Are you connecting it to a LAN? If so, you should be able to just connect it and go.
Go to Start -> Run. Type "cmd" and press return. Then type ipconfig.
What does it say for your IP address?
