MySQL GUI Issue

Hi guys good day.
I have this weird problem about using GUI for mysql. I have installed mysql server 5.0 successfully w/ the help of visualad's tutorial about installing mysql,php ang apache. I can connect to mysql using the dos prompt providing the password I have set in installing it but the problem is when I try to connect to my mysql using GUI namely SQL Manager 2005 for MySQL regarding I have supply the right password. What would be the possible reasons why it wont let me use the GUI for mysql I have already tried SQLyog and now the EMS but still it wont connect. Btw I'm using Windows XP w/ service pack 2.
