[RESOLVED] Hard Drive problem.

Ok, I thought that this was some kind of problem with my 2K install, but having put XP on this machine, I get the same problem.

I have a D Drive, which is a 160 gig Samsung SP1604N. If it's not used for about.. 5 minutes.. My computer will sometimes hang for about three seconds, and then I hear an audible sound from the drive (Like a Motor starting up quickly, like.. the opposite of a slow ramp up speed.. almost a slight "thump")

It's more an annoyance than anything, but I can't get it to stop. Every power management setting I could find (in both the 2K install before, and now in the XP install) is set to always on, or never power down. Sometimes it will happen even if I'm not doing something related to the D drive.. Like something I would think required a pagefile read or write.

Is BIOS set to perform Power Management? If so, turn it off. I think that will solve the issue.

Wow. I can't believe I didn't think of that. Never had a BIOS with Power management settings before.. It was set to spin down hard disks after 5 minutes. Thanks david, hasn't happened yet.
