If you search on the forums, you will find threads that will help you (I think)
Anyways, this thread will help you for sure:

If want listen to telephone on pc (on the soundcard).
When at connecting to internet then I listen to signal but I don't want dial number. I want only listen to call.
If he did give you a negative rep (although now we know it was rattled_cage), it would have been a grey rep since he only has 15 posts. ;)Quote:

One thing caught my attention in this thread about phone recording laws. Not that you're not likely to get caught unless you heard something that was being planned or what not and tried to report it.
Because even a confession to a crime is not usable in court on a phone tap (One without a warrant) because most states (In the US) have at least a single-consent law. Meaning that at least one of the people on the line must know they are being recorded.
Just some interesting info you might like :)
Who knew phone taps can be written in VB? :p
Well, it only makes sense, really...
Anything that plugs into a phone jack has the ability to capture all the sounds going across the lines, including modems.
Radio Shack actually sells a couple different types of phone taps, one of which we all have seen and love uses a suction cup on the back of the phone itself, not so covert though....
Another one plugs into any phone jack in the house and activates any time a phone is picked up on the same line and begins recording. I had a friend who caught his wife talking to another guy she was cheating on him with using this method. They actually filled up the entire 120 minute tape with smoochy-boochie talking and proceeded to talk trash on him. When it came time for the divorce, his proof of her adultry was thrown out for these reasons. In the courts eyes, he had no prove that she was disloyal.
Nice, eh?
To legally record a phone conversation, the law says that you must emit a beep once every 15 seconds. Don't know if it applies anywhere but the US, though.
Also, the modem can easily detect RING's on a line. I think hardware is required to detect on-line and off-line, though.
what a forum is this! everyday/hour/minute when i visit i hav learned a lot... tnx to all here...
That's not entirely true, Jacob...
According to the federal laws governing wiretaps, if probable cause is found, your phone will be tapped without you knowing until the tapping is over. The Beep law generally only applies to private citizens doing it and is only valid in some states such as California. That is because they do not have the "one party consent provision". Any other state without this would be the same, I reckon.
The interesting thing is, you can contact your phone company if you suspect you are being tapped and they will investigate, however, they will only let you know if there is an Illegal wiretap. If one was tapped through legal routes i.e. a Warrant allowing it, you will eventually find out as federal law says they must inform you within 90 days after the wiretapping has ceased, but the phone company would not inform you of legal ones.
Really, outside of the few US Federal laws, it depends on which state you are in. I know Utah is a "one party consent provision" state. Meaning you record your convo with someone for whichever reason, as long as you know, it's 100% legal. There is no need to tell the other person. Although, I admit in my experience it's nice to let them know at the end of the convorsation, just for the reaction. And who knows, you may even get more juice from it! Such as death threats etc.
