I FIANLLY figured out how to get linux to use my wireless card (ndiswrapper). And I finally figured out how to tell knoppix to connect to my wireless network. Posting from knoppix as we speak (Konqueror).
My question to you nice folks is that, Im planing on installing Red Hat 9 on my laptop also. Is there any other Linux distro that is better than Red Hat?
I heard of ubuntu linux that is aimed towards newbies, but I have a feeling that itll be to newbish for me :p.
Don't ever EVER mention Ubuntu again. I'd stick to Knoppix (W00T KNOPPIX!) or Xandrox or Slackware or SuSE. I like SuSE and Xandrox is ok too. Forget RedHat, it's the MacOS of Linux systems.
What's wrong with Ubuntu? (Other than it doens't run on my laptop?)

ubuntu is NOT aimed specifically at n00bs. if you dont want to spend days trying to configure the OS and get it running properly, then ubuntu is one of the best. it is constantly at the top of the Distrowatch.com rankings (so it must be quite popular).Quote:

if i had an x86 computer, i would boot into tomsrtbt, ssh into a debian server, and post in vbforums via links/lynx. :D (or just view the html pages with wget and cat)
RHEL is probably alright if ur using it in a corporate environment, but i wouldnt go near fedora...
if you prefer KDE to GNOME, then try Kubuntu.

But I think they call it Fedora Core now? (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong).
Theres a problem with that I want something a little bit more beefy than Knoppix. Red Hat is exactly that. Like for example, Apache, DNS server ect.. Oh, and, Ubuntu ;).Quote:

I don't like ubunto. It has no root account and I couldn't get my wifi card to work. Other than that it's ok but I don't think it's the best.
RedHat (RHL or Fedora) is pretty looking and good for starting out. It was one of my first distros before I found SuSE. But everyone has thier own preference. When I get togeether with the local 2600 group everyone is running a different distro. I suggest starting of with SuSE, Fedora, or Xandrox.
Like with most 'nix users, once you're an expert and find the distro you really love you'll probably start re-writting the source code to fit your needs ;)
I like slackware, Debian is very good also
I like Windows.
I like Debian, Ubuntu... That is all.
Also, ndiswrapper is a great tool for WLAN cards :)
