Was it really hacked? Cause all he's putting in there is HTML code.

Yes we have been. We are working on it.
back up
JR it wasnt martin who posted, the hacker got martins account.
Ohhhhhhhh, well that makes sense.
Hmmmnnn... A forum for programmers being hacked? Is the culprit identified?
... well I did make a post in the mod forum many moons ago about requiring all administrators and members of staff to use strong passwords
It wasn't due to passwords, a different technique was used (and Marty has a strong password anyway).
I looked up the name of the guy who did this to the site
he has about 15 other sites that have also been defaced
What? You know who the culprit is?
They didn't exactly leave it to guesswork ;)
Well actually no... we all saw who they claimed to be, and what group they claimed to be with. They may well have been trying to get other people in to trouble (but then again, they may not have been - I don't know).
The appropriate people are dealing with it, and have more information about the events that occured than any of us.
any word on if your going to upgrade teh forum software to prevent this again
I never saw any of this... who's supposed to have hacked the site?
You'll be lucky to get any details off a mod or admin... Better ask the lesser known members privately.Quote:

Nobody from here. It would appear to be some Hungarian organization if we are to believe what was posted on the site.
Had to prove me wrong didn't you :lol:Quote:

As I understand it, hackers often do just that out of arrogance.
Actually, not all hackers are out there to cause mischeif. The ones that do are called Crackers, and give hackers a bad name. The regular hackers do it out of learning experience, and even inform people of security holes. One of the greatest hackers who ever lived now owns Microsoft. Yep you guessed it, Bill Gates. ;)Quote:

Black Hat Hackers have malicious intensions while White Hat Hackers attempt to break into current systems to help the owner/developer make it more secure and to expose vulnerabilities before the bad guys do.Quote:

the other reason why people leave names after hacking could possibly be that its not illegal or there is not a law agenst it where they are from
(for thouse of you who dont know america doesnt owen the internet (or space))

With a brick it could be possible to make a hole in the wind shield. Then the car radio can be dismounted by a crowbar. e.t.c.
Is this legal?
no, it is breaking and entering.Quote:

There appears to be no ethical or moral standard anymore.
The term hacking back in the 1970's and 80's referred to how you figured out how something related to computers worked - as there was no schooling or degree programs or any lessons for it - anywhere. Bill Gates a hacker? Not the way the term is used now - that would be absurd.
We've been hacked here in our office - 5 years ago we setup an FTP site - left it wide open. It was used by a German group to hide/store/transport illegal DVD images. Idiots! Left a folder on my server that could not be deleted. We informed the FBI and left it at that. Stealing copywrited movies - how arrogant.
A few months ago some idiot got a trojan horse onto a server here - that server then started sending spam e-mails - our IP address got black-listed. Had to go through days of hell to re-build the server, work with our ISP over IP address issues - what a pain. And it cost me real $$'s - time and effort to correct something that is just plain wrong.
There is no cute version of hacking or cracking - it's all arrogant, childish garbage. They all need to get a real life and leave us poor working folks to make a living in a legitimate fashion.
I'm sure the admins at the forum here didn't want to spend a day off fixing a hack attempt - that's an invasion into someones time and life that's never valid.

...surely refers to Bill and his high school buddies as hackers - but not in the way that term is used today.
Even when I was in high school I fooled around with the scheduling algorithm so that me and all my friends were scheduled first - we all got the same classes.
High school pranks related to computers <> hacking into a business system and causing harm
Are you talking about Kevin Mitnick?

Phreaks had power, and some could even tap other peoples’ phone calls. In the mid-1970s AT&T was losing $30 million a year to phreaks, so in the 1980s they upgraded the system and started scanning for people playing tones on their lines and tracking them down.
