Ever since a couple weeks ago, when I run VB and I do any semi intensive loop of any kind, every two minutes my computer will become slower and slower then stop. I have to press alt +Ctrl + del and alt + esc and alt + tab repetitively for like 3 minutes to get the stupid thing back to normal.
Note: This only happends when VB is open. I have no idea and not sure how to fix, I already used vb's uninstall feature, and then reinstalled but no use.
My McAffee is legit btw too ;)
man sounds like your system isnt dumping its Cache like it should in the CPU or Memory..I had a similar problem when I use too run Certain app's together like Adobe Photoshop CS2 and VB,Lock up tighter than a frogs butt..lol
Just for testing, disable your background scanning or disable it altogether. If it doesnt freeze then there is something with McAfee and VB or just the VB project your working on?
Check if on access scanning( not sure if thats the same as RobDog888 background scanning) is enabled and try turning it off.
What version of Mcaffee are you using? I had major problems with version 8 Enterprise Edition it kept killing Outlook, ended up rolling back to 7.
McAfee has a patch for the buffer overflow issue that was conflicting with .NET. It was patch #10. Try a search at McAfee against its knowledge base to see if there is some similar issues with McAfee and VB 6. ;)
Glad i'm not using the McAfee..lol Nothing like solving another apps internal issue's with other Apps or code...

Well there are also issues with Norton too. Just seems like most apps are going to have some kind of interaction issues with another now a days.
Turns out nothing with mcaffe, maybe its my winsock/comctl..I will reregister those.
If windsock was corrupt or the registry key was corrupt then it would be down all the time?
Im not sure what you meant by that rob, but Ive been using the winsock control + msflexgrid control + mscomctl and its been doing it.
I was thinking that maybe they were corrupt and were leaking into memory, but i just installed sp6 again, and same thing happends.
I have no idea beyond this point..
Please any info will help..Im dying to get this thing working again!
If its that big of an issue or you want to resolve this asap then a reformat should solve it. :(

No not yet, I have to re download it off comcast.net to get the thing back..Good idea though
Well I was thinking that if the AV was conflicting with VB that it may be a good test to install VB first, see how it runs, and then install the AV.
I had an issue packaging my app that used Martin's registration scheme. Seemed that NAV was blocking things. Randem had me change a few things and then I could distribute my app. It involved turning off email scanning, and deleting and re-adding the control. Inno worked fine after that, and I've compiled since then, without incident.
After a full reformat, reinstall of vb etc etc..Guess what still happends?? I am really getting pissed off. The only control I use in the project is winsock and I have never had any troubles with it.
And you still havent installed your AV yet?
No I have. I actually think it was my firewall. You think maybe it thought I was getting attacked and put me into like "Anti-Hacker" mode or something?
There wouldnt be a lock down of your systems memory / cpu speed like that. Last I checked it would give you a pop up saying there was a hacking attempt that was blocked and the ip is now banned from your comp or something like that.
It sounds like a memory leak was the problem from VB itself. As any other "hook" could have caused a problem. It may also have been a root kit problem. These have become more common now adays and are easily getting by AV software. There are numerous programs to get rid of these as well.
Some better then others. But I can tell you some of these are getting smart but still have their lines drawn. HiJackThis is becoming nothing but a process checker now adays with whats coming out though.
GL with your problem and hope you get everything sorted with it.
Check the 'Event Viewer' in the control panel and see what it says there. Maybe there is a conflict going on with your hardware?
Throw some DoEvents in your program and see if it still does it.
