[RESOLVED] Network Timeout - KeepAlive?
I have a two-PC wireless home network via a LinkSys broadband router. It works fine except for one problem and that is that every night the connection to the wireless PC gets dropped. In an attempt to fix that I wrote a program that resides on the wireless PC and pings the wired PC every couple of minutes but it didn't help. Would changing the program so that it resides on wired PC and have it ping the wireless one help? Also, I've read some stuff about KeepAlive parameters that affect TCPIP under XP but I don't completely understand the parameters. Would increasing or decreasing the parameter from its current 2 hour value help?
Re: Network Timeout - KeepAlive?
It may be your network connection setting. I believe there is a powersave feature to turn off the connection when it times out. May be worth a look.
Re: Network Timeout - KeepAlive?
It can be found under your Network Connection properties > Power Management > uncheck "Allow Windows to turn off this device to save power".

I couldn't find that setting but I did find Power Options on the Control Panel and I changed to the Always On setting. I let you know tomorrow if that worked.

It's obvious when you think about it, but it was fixed by the simple power setting change.
