Thanks thou.
Ok i am running on Win2k i got a nic (Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC) What nos am i using and how do i find nos drivers.
This about a clear as i can be.
Thanks
Do you have any of these OS's?
* Windows NT
* Windows 2000 Server
* Windows Server 2003
* Novell NetWare
* Red Hat Linux
A NOS driver probably applies to the OS you are using...ie if you have Windows NT you probably need a windows driver for your ethernet card or something.
Opertarting systems such as Windows NT Server, Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003 and I think UNIX are classified as NOS. They do such things as hosting domains, Web sites, email,etc. As for drivers, Windows 2000 should provide a RealTek driver for your nic.Quote:
An NOS is an Operating System that has been specifically written to keep networks running at optimal performance
Thanks for the relpy .
I just have win2k and a nic.
But i went back to dglienna link and under disscusion tab seems to make sense.
NOS in win2k can just mean a operating system with built in Network capabilities, still stuck with the NOS drivers bit.
You can get drivers from Windows Update, or from Realtek's site. If the nic is enabled, and has no yellow exclamation point in Device Manager, then there is a driver installed already. W2K is good at identifying built in hardware. It has to be turned on in BIOS, though, if it's onboard, and not an extra nic card in a slot.
Thanks everyone.
I understand now ,i didnt need the drivers just the understanding of the termonology.
Great.
Your not confusing NOS and NAS are you? NAS = Network Attached Storage.
