Visual Studio Installer Issue

I just finished installing vb6 and visual studio 1.1. on an xp machine.
But I cannot use devenv to package - deploy vb solutions, the way it worked before.
If I select a vbw project it says "the selected file is not a valid visual studio file".

The only incident during setup was after cd1 it requests msdn cd but cannot proceed (it says 16 bit error). So I click stop and install msdn manually.
I did install service pack 6 also.

Moved to Application Deployment.
