[RESOLVED] Reputation - Is it good for new members ?
Sorry if it has been already answered. I'm new here (only 29 posts so far).
So far I've got only 7 reputations. (Default 5 + 2).
But I actually recived 3 'Approve' comments. One of them was from a member who is under 20 posts himself.
So, I guess vBulletin didn't added any point for his approval.
This brings a question,
If new members can't give reputation points (just 2-3 days ago I wasn't able to), doesn't it discourages 'some' members to post in his/her thread ?
What if the new-member is new in VB too ? He/she can't answer other peoples threads even if he/she is willing to help. (I'm with VB6 for almost 1 year, but still some of the threads are way over my brain.)
Re: Reputation - Is it good for new members ?
Reputation is not there to get people to post. The forum is for those who want to help and get help. The giving is not intended to be for reward.
I just realized I'm not in the top 500 posters like I thought I'd be. I'm over 2000 from the top!

Sorry. I guess I wasn't able to explain my 'whole' point. (Please excuse my poor English.)
That was one part of the story - for members who could give rep points.
Please think my position when I was under 20 posts.
I know my 'Titlebar Button' related thread in API forum isn't a very common one. If somebody solved my problem, when I was under 20 post, I had no way to show him/her my gratitude. (except verbal ofcourse)
Just think how should I (or any new member) feel ?
Re: Reputation - Is it good for new members ?
That a thank you is all you have to offer and it must suffice. Most members can offer no more than you, and no more than that could possiblby be expected of you. A verbal thank you is more than the helper wants. S/her posted to help you and for no other reason.

This verbal thank you can also be done with the reputation "rate this post" feature. Even though no points are given, a "thank you" or a "that really helped" is appreciated. I'd say the text provided in the reputations is generally more appreciated than the points.
Brad!
Re: Reputation - Is it good for new members ?
I wasn't aware rating posts including text!
Re: Reputation - Is it good for new members ?
Yes. It is best to include your name in that textbox, so that the person getting the points knows that they came from you. I always use my name with leaving points.

hey do you know Hindi? where are you from?
BTW, what DG wanted to say that when you want to add rep to somebody's post, mention your name in the textbox below the option buttons. it's just about great gesture. even i mention my name when i rate posts.
PS - it's DHANYAVAAD ;)

Ya. I've already made that mistake. Thought that vBulletin autometically adds my nick.
