As mentioned by David it is possible, just go to the forum page (in this case: http://www.vbforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=46 ), then select "Forum Tools" -> "Subscribe to this Forum".
You will then get a screen to choose what kind of notification you want (Daily, Weekly, or none). If you choose not to get email updates, it will be listed in your User CP screen.
