Try some of the anti viruses on this page:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
Edit:
Do you know which virus you have?
or ww.trendmicro.com for an online scan
www.antivirus.com or download avasts free antivirus software.
It redirects to http://www.trendmicro.com/home/default.asp the same thing dglienna posted ;).Quote:

If you have the XP disk, or have an i386 folder on your C: drive (which is recommended) then you can use the system file checker, which may help.

I had this happen over the summer. I had to do a reinstall, which lost some data, then backup everything to the server, and then format and install everything. I should copy everything back to the server one of these days, but now I have 60 gb instead of 30. Don't know if the drive is that big.
Thanks DG, but it says once i click install, that it will delete all files on my computer..no repair..
This is XP, right? Maybe it can't find a valid installation of XP?
I know XP has a repair feature built into it. Maybe you could mount the drive in another computer to copy files off of it?
Download SysRescue Linux ISO, boot to CD and run a virus scan?
When you boot up the XP cd it's going to say press enter to install windows XP. Then its going to scan for any installed versions, then when it (if) finds yours you select it, then its going to ask like press R to repair. I believe that is the option layout, my memory isn't that great for exact memorization, but that should be close. Just pay CLOSE attention to the options and all the instructions/messages.Quote:

Pull your hard drive out from your machine and plug it in to another one (that has a virus scanner loaded ;)). Boot off the other machine's hard drive and get all your valuable files off yours onto that, and virus scan them as you go. Then, wipe the drive, put it back into yours and install a fresh copy of Windows/Linux/alternative OS of choice.
I know it's annoying but in the long run that's the best solution.
from where can i download one?Quote:
