Have you tried eBay? :p
Ahh, erm well for a start they aren't legal because the radio frequences are liecened by the goverment.
Couldnt you use on of those things with a tape adapter on the end which you stick into the out of your MP3, don't know what you can do if you already have a CD in there?

I saw a leeeeeeeeeeeegggggggggaaaaaaaaallllllllll one last week in a magazine/catalogue but I can't remember where (I didn't want one at the time).
A cassette type adaptor it not an option
There is no need to get nasty. If you read the posts you will notice that you cannot get a legal FM transmitter. No if's or but's, it's simply illegal.
The reason is that any kind of FM transmitter (yes even a short range iPod transmitter) is classified as pirate radio as you do not have a licence.
Sorry but whatever way you look at it, it is illegal.
Most car radios here have LINE IN jacks for an external CD player. You could just plug in the MP3 player, and keep the volume low (as it is alread amplified)
The entire band range that a standard car radio reciever can recieve is licensed by the government - that's why that range was selected by the radio manufacturer.
Therefore all these devices would be illegal to use in the UK.
There are frequency bands that you can use - collectively referred to as "citizens band" so if you had a CB radio in your car you could do this - the quality would be pants though.
Line In jacks bypass the radio

My mistake, but from my understanding the reason Apple do not sell the FM transmitter in the UK is because such things are illegal. Otherwise they would be marketing them here would they not? :ehh:
Guru, the English language is a beautiful one, capable of tender poetry, succinct parody, and incisive wit. But, out of all the myriad words at my disposal, all those that I could use to describe you are four letters long.
Nope, I can't think of any four letter words to describe me apart from 'nice'Quote:

Please play nicely ....
BTW, most long range electromagnetic communications require some kind of licence. Radio armatures need them, wireless equipment need them, the police need them, radio broadcasters need them. If you look at the FM frequency range for any car radio, you'll realise that the range is 10's of miles, so anything you transmit, unless exceedingly low power, will disrupt others.
Ture, but the iPod transmitter is only a few metres but it still is illegal as ANY fm transmitter needs a licence
It depends what frequency range its within. There are portions of the FM band which are not required to be licensed.
Then why doesn't Apple sell their iPod transmitter??
Probably because its illegal :p
Indeed
I've seen quite a few been broght over from the US, and because they don't even work Outside of the cars in most cases i don't see how they're illegal.
I personally know someone who frequently uses one.
Shame if they are illegal tho :(
I agree as they would be extremely useful for in the car. Certainly cheaper than getting an MP3 compatible car stereo.
Wher can I get cod for this legal tramsnitter? I wanna to make an ipod.
Oh, simple, right here
OK, I've found it now and it wasn't a transmitter: it's an RF modulator from MaplinQuote:

Not what I want really as I would have to have one for each car really.Quote:

Enables virtually any audio device to be played through your FM enabled car-stereo
Terminated in two phono sockets for input
Powered from the car battery
Pass-through FM aerial connector
This handy device allows almost any audio device to be played through FM reception on your car stereo. ....
.. the unit can be set to broadcast on one of two FM frequencies, either 88.7MHz or 89.1MHz.
Thanks for all your help anyway!

I've bought one of these now http://www.virtualrealitysoundlabs.com/vr3_fmmod.html off some bod on ebaY
Is it UK Legal? I doubt it but it does have a CE mark on the packaging
The ofcom website says:
"To date we have not prosecuted individual users. We recommend users stop using the device."
Which sounds like they more or less just turn a 'blind eye' to them...
Either way, advertising the fact you have one on an international forum may not be the best of ideas.

Nevertheless.
Perhaps you could also advertise where you get your illegally downloaded MP3s? Although I'm SURE you wouldn't do such a thing!
It could cause interferance and set off a nuclear bomb. Remember you have the power :afrog:
Correct! I don't.Quote:
