One fine day my CD-RW tray started opening up. I close it and it opens. Thought it must be a virus, and I updated my virus db and scanned, I even reformatted my system. But this didnt help.. anybody knows the problem?
Thanks

Run their software. You are certainly infected. I hope that it catches all of them. What AV software are you running? Look up AVAST! Downloads in the future.
I use AVG-Free version but uptodate
If you reformatted and it is still happening, then the chances of it being spyware/virus would be less. Is there anything physically in the drive that shouldn't be?
Try putting it into another machine (if you have one). If it exerts this same behavior, then theres something wrong with the drive, else its with your computer. Maybe you have a home made trojan? Are you always connected to the internet?
Try pressing the switch a few times. It could be stuck.
Yeah.. am always connected to internet but have firewall, AV. Also run Antispyware frequently.
Regarding drive. I press the button, it closes and opens... At the instant of closing, if I explore the CD inside, it stays closed.... when it stops reading, it comes out again :D
Weird!
If you open and close the door without a CD inside, does it stay closed, or could it be a bad switch. It won't open while you're reading data, but if you press the button while it's reading, it will open when it finishes.
When there is no CD, when I press the button, it closes and opens...When there is cd, and I immediately explore the cd as soon as it closes, it reads and explores and when I close the explorer, it opens up! If I dont explore the CD, even if the cd has auto start, it opens up.
If you press the button once, and it opens, and then closes, then it is a switch.
If you press the button once, and it opens, and then once to close it, then it isn't the switch, but may be the drive. Windows Compact Disk Writer automatically opens the disk when it finishes burning. Maybe something in software is doing it?
The problem is not about opening th tray.. but closing it. .. no matter in what way I close it... it opens up immediately. It stays closed only when I explore the CD inside....
Try the drive in another machine, or just replace it. Sounds like it's bad. You could also try removing the drive from device manager, and then scanning for hardware changes, which should find it again, and re-load the drivers.
Instead of going throught the hassle of putting it in another machine, just disconnect the IDE cable (leave the power) and try it.
