Does viewing a single post increase the view count of the thread in which the post resides? Or must you view the thread itself to do that?
Viewing a post is viewing part of a thread....
Viewing multiple posts on a single page is a single view to a thread....
Am I answering the question?
OK lets put it this way. If you go to /showpost.php?p=postid, does that increase the view count for the thread that that post is in?
no, i don't think so.
i just tested on this one..it doesnt
Thanks guys - that's what I thought.
I wouldnt count on the Views being completely accurate since it was a noted issue after the upgrade to version 3 that the views dont get updated correctly.
I know on Invision and phpBB whenever you view the thread you increase the count, whereas on vB (3 at least) it doesn't count each time you view it. I assumed that was because it was ignoring each time you just refreshed or something.
Reason I asked is because I have a link in my signature, originally it was to a post but I checked the thread view count and couldn't believe it was only 57 after a few weeks - leading me to ask this question.
I have noticed that when I create a new thread and view it a couple of times, either testing or editing, the view count for that thread in my CP does not show any changes and shows still shows a 0 view count.
I even seen one thread with 1 posted reply and 0 views. :D
According to some staff posts I read on vBulletin.com, each view is counted, but the view count takes an hour to update, unless the "Update thread views immediately" option is on.
I guess that viewing a single post does not increment the thread view count anyway.
Immediate hasn't been turned on for the last year or so, since I joined, and don't think they plan on doing it, due to the overhead.
