i'd like to do a project that involves manipulating sound or video files(or something that has to do with sound or video files that will help me learn about these type of files), but I can't think of any. Any suggestions?

probably WAV to MP3 encoder, or WAV to WMA converter, or WAV to Ogg Vorbis converter, or MP3 to Ogg Vorbis converter, or MPEG to AVI converter, and there are many but it depends on if you are into it just for fun n learning or you making some serious project for your company.
