I am looking for something to test the physical integrity of my hard drives. I have 7 of them in a server and I think one or so of them may be acting up (noise, corrupt file, etc)
Is there such a free software?

Dos 6.22's scandisc program would scan each bit on the platter looking for bad sectors. I still use it because it's fairly reliable, but for modern drives it would take forever to run. Be prepared to leave it over the weekend
Aight, thx. I'll check it out.
I know there are not a lot of linux people, but anyone know of linux tools (FC4)
Usually your HD manufacturer make a free diagnostics utility available for download from their website. It can do several tests and if there is a failure it usually presents an error code that is needed when you try to submit an RMA.
Well, they are way beyond the warranty point by now. I'll ask in a linux forum. Thx for all the help guys.
But it doesnt matter if its in or out of warrenty. They offer the utility free. What brand of HDs are they?
Oh, they are all various kinds. Maxtor, WD, Samsung, and whatever comes in XBOXs.
Right, ...
Mator has their own diagnostics program called MaxBlast
Western Digital has DataLifeguard
Samsung has a couple of utilities too
And here is a broad listing of the rest.
