Looks like a DB that returns login info to websites when you use IE.
Prolly works, though.
No they are useless, and they can be fooled easily. They are not meant to be very secure and they even say something like "This device should not be used as the sole means of user authentication". Its mainly just a faster way to get people logged in.
Haven't IBM notebooks used fingerprint ID for some years?
I routinely shave my fingertips just so I'm not tempted to use such devices. :afrog:
I once grabbed a hot lightbulb by the metal bit, it took the fingerprints off my index finger and thumb for about 3 weeks! It was stuck to the bulb too and stank like sizzling meat. Needless to say I was unable to gain entry to the NSA HQ.
Indeed, fingerprint ID doesn't tend to work well because a fingerprint can be worn down or damaged
Or burned off. Koala's have fingerprints too you know. *fact*
according to the beeb, although they are never 100% trustworthy
Stephen Fry said so. He's a clever chap.
Well there's no doubting that. Back to the issue though, aren't fingerprint ID's what's holding up the identity cards in the UK because fingerprint scanners get it wrong 40% of the time?
well, I will buy it just for the heck of it (only $ 29.95). i will set it to work for my passwords for the websites, not for my computer :D
Have you searched out other products? I know you love M$ and that but if your'e spending cash you need to check reviews and stuff. Or even better would be to get a demonstration by the salesman :thumb:
Wouldn't voice recognition be just as good? So if you wanted absolute security get both the fingerprint ID, a voice recognition app and a password
Voice recognition is a horrible idea. People can get a cold and have a hoarse voice.
The best combo of security would be an Iris scanner and a password.
Iris scanner by itself wouldn't be secure, since well someone can rob you of your eye.

It was good, but not always accurate - sometimes you had to scan your finger 3 or 4 times, at which point it was quicker to input your password anyway. A large part of this was the angle you held the PDA, I'd guess that a desktop version (and 2 years newer) would be better.
One thing to note is that it would work for all of your fingers rather than just one (you input them all in the Training stage), so unless you had a really bad accident with wossname it would still be ok.
I'd say go with retina scanner and piss test. Never fails. Plus, I sometimes always have to piss when I get to my pc.
iris scanner is much more effective, and I would imagine it would be harder to fake?
Is that your job? Burning off Koala's fingerprints?Quote:
