Re: Connect Crystal Report 8
You would have to convert your CR4 to CR8 but preserve all CR4 files. Then run each rpt individually just to see of you can even open it directly in Crystal Reports. Then you will need to create another instance of your project that would inreract with CR8 and also include Crystal32 ocx (cannot recall exact name) on one of the forms that calls reports so you cat try call any fo your rpt files from VB.
Re: Connect Crystal Report 8
The ocx that comes with VB6 is only version 4.6 so you will need to purchase CR but they are up to version XI now. I have an example of using VB6 and CR 8.5 in my signature but it wont be compatible with XI. Checkout Business Objects for more info on CR.
Re: Connect Crystal Report 8
No, no, no - the client must supply with compatible version or I wouldn't even bother ... are you kidding? It's not a cheap prduct. Besides, client would have to be licensed to use CR11 and that could be a major expence.
Re: Connect Crystal Report 8
Not exactly, if you have CR (full version) you can deploy only certain dlls and ocxs that are required for your program to display or use a CR report. Its in the CR license of your full version, like in the developer version. The client does not have to purchase CR at all unless they want the ability to visually create/modify report rpt files.

And that's the main point: people like to have control over reports so they can run them independently from the main program with all kind of different parms ...

Re: Connect Crystal Report 8
You know you can create reports that take paramaters or display differently depending upon passed params, etc. If they want to Create reports is really the main licensing issue.
Re: Connect Crystal Report 8
That I know but what I'm saying is that you can have your report created for two completely diffetrent purposes: one is general and it runs by some program (written in VB perhaps) and two is the same file but executed from CR software (or whatever) directly so users can have all kind of custom inputs (parameters if you will) created to generate what they need individually. You cannot possibly incorporate all of that garbage into your program so you give'm two options and everybody's happy. But it also means lisensing, though.
Re: Connect Crystal Report 8
Right, but from my personal experience out there I have never see a client want total control over a reprt through CR software itself. Always I have sen they just want the report made for them with minor variations, unless its in need of a secondary report.

That's because Californians are lazy ... :p :bigyello:
Re: Connect Crystal Report 8
I guess its all this sun and heat we have. :p Unlike the neurotic obsessive control fanatics over there in New Amsterdam. :D Jk ;)

Yep, life isn't fair - isn't that right? ;) Some can relax 24/7 but some have to live in the city "that never sleeps" ... :p
