Auto Start UP
Hello Everyone:
I had ran across a help document that explained how to start your PC without being there? If you start work at 8:00 am your computer could be booted at 7:45 am. It had some thing to due with the Automatically Synchronize With An Internet Time Server, I think? I have not been able to find it, I ran across it while searching for something else. I printed a copy of it, but can’t find that either.
Any Ideas?
Thanks

Re: Auto Start UP
Most modern PC's have an option in the BIOS which allows you to set a time/date for the computer to boot, perhaps this could be an easier option?

Re: Auto Start UP
If your BIOS supports it, there is also Wake ON LAN (WOL) which lets a server start the computer.

Re: Auto Start UP
Interesting.
I had a PC that would occasionally start when the bathroom light was switched on.
In the BIOS I disabled several (as I recall) Wake On ... options and that fixed it.
FYI check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake-on-LAN

Re: Auto Start UP
Someone wrote a WOL program a few months ago that I use. The problem is that I can't shut down my W2K Workstation. When I try, it freezes with the "Safe to shut down your computer" so I don't use it often.

Re: Auto Start UP
I know of one virus (can't remember it's name) that used this functionality in the BIOS. It was very irritating watching my PC boot up at random times, often in the night. So beware this also :thumb:
