A bit off topic perhaps...
Suppose your company has decided to leave Windows and go "open source", be it LINUX or some other version of UNIX. All your apps are in VB6 and SQL Server 2000. The "Office" apps are available in an open source version.
Would you have to get a new db? And what about your apps? Rewrite in C++? Or would this be the time to shoot for an ASP rewrite?
Or, maybe it is the time to see how close to retirement your are :-)
Has anybody else thought about this scenario?
Re: A bit off topic perhaps...
If you are leaving windows completely then yes you would need a new DB, take a look as Mysql or PostgreSQL or FireBird
Again you could use MONO for programming letting you use a version of C# aslso there are VB like languages to work with such as RealBasic or the up and comming KBasic
Hope this helps!!!
