I don't have it on my laptop. I thought the mfg put it there with all the cab files for when you are updating your computer, so that you don't need the cd.
You could tell your virus software to not scan it, though.
Windows update doesn't put it there. Unless they JUST started that whick I double cause that a very large folder. dglienna is right about the manufacturer putting it there. I do the same with all my computers so i don't need the cd. Just makes it easier to update things.
It doesnt exist on my pc, maybe it takes so long because the process inside it has duplicated itself (resulting in slow scan?).
Im guessing its ok to remove, but check with other people first
i have it, i suggest leaving it (winXP)
I don't have it, and haven't needed the CD yet. I installed a printer and it was installed with no disk.
C:\i386 you should be able to delete, just as long as you didn't make a typo and meant C:\Windows\i386.
You can also delete the blue folders in C:\Windows if your looking to delete some stuff. :thumb:
What 'blue folders' do you mean? doesn't blue indicate compressed files?
Uninstall folders from Windows Updates. I deleted about 100 a few weeks ago, and see now that I have another 20! Going to kill them some time soon.
Wow! 120? ...what was the total size of those?
I am thinking of writing up an extensive list of files/folders that are safe to delete in order to increase the available amount of free space. I will certainly add those to the list. I'd always thought those were necesary in the event of an additional security patch.
I just installed MSDE (SQL Server) which isn't running quite right, but I just checked the windows folder and found 46 folders/apps. Here is a picture before they were toasted.
There are no blue folders in my C:\WINDOWS directory :ehh:
Silly question but...do you have your folder options set to view hidden ones?Quote:
