Accessing MSDN

In a Visual Basic project, ASP net application, when I employ the SEARCH option of the HELP menu, and specify VISUAL BASIC as the filter, then:
1. The filter is ignored, and I get up to 500 topics, most of which have nothing to do with VISUAL BASIC
2. When I try and access one of the VISUAL BASIC topics, I have to insert the MSDN CD. The version of MSDN that I previously installed on my hard disk appears to be ignored, even though I selected the option SYNCHRONISE WITH IIS when installing it.
Any help with this problem would be appreciated (I am a newbie, this is the first of the two problems that I have)
