What's the rule about mixing memory? Like mixing 512 MB and 256 MB? Does it have to be the same speed, ie PC7200 & PC2700?

as long as the mother board can handle the ram you can use it. for example...
my computer can support DDR233 and DDR333, so i can stick both types of ram in it at the same time.
BUT... if you buy a 233 stick and a 333 stick (if your mother board supports it) the 333 will only beable to go as fast as the 233 stick.
In general if you mix memory speeds the motherbaord will just switch to maximum clock speed of the lowest memory module. It's a good idea to check your mother board manual first however to ensure that it doesn't explcitily state, that you cannot mix memory modules.
Thanks for the information. Just wanted to be sure before I screwed something up.
If you want dual-channel then they must be the same capacity and speed.
