hi, i was wondering like normal and got stuck on something. What is better, PHP or ASP?
Like all questions like this, it depends...
Tg
they are both like the same but i would like to find out what people use more often. what do you mostly program in out of PHP or ASP?
Again.... it depends.... here at work it's ASP.... at home its PHP.... it just all depends.
Tg
well... PHP is 100% free!
(true) ASP you have to run a windows machine (XP or 2003 or Server edition) and if it is XP... you have to have XP PRO
just like microsoft... always trying to get you to pay more money than you need to
What the hell do you expect from a poll posted in the PHP forum? Fairness?
ASP and PHP are very similar on technology level. PHP works pretty much anywhere. ASP only on IIS, except for some attempts to implement it elsewhere, which didn't get that far. Anyway, you couldn't use any of the interesting extensions there.
By now, ASP is practically dead. ASP.Net has replaced it. PHP, on the other hand, continues to thrive.
The discussion PHP vs Java Web Technologies vs ASP.Net is a different and far more complicated one.
I could not put this in the ASP forum because i realy do not know much ASP. I dont think this would realy catch on in the General PC Forum aswell.
you should have put this in chit chat... but put [serious] in the name, to keep people like mendhak form distroying the thread :p
PHP is free. [:D]
I've moved it to the General Developer forum.
My opinion is that if your question refers to the "old" ASP, then PHP is better.
To be honest, I did not think much about PHP, until I started Job Hunting a few months ago.
If you know no .Net, then I suggest you dive in straight with PHP (seems ppl using php, use it with MySQL a lot, so maybe tackle to two together).
If you do know .Net well, then...well, like techgnome said, it depends. My opinion then is to learn both.
Though deciding what to learn huh?
PHP in my opinion is better than classic ASP.
But if you compare it with ASP.NET then you need to decide what you want to do with it. ASP.NET works great with web services and desktop appliactions, and is relativly easy to setup. Whereas if you wanted to communicate with a PHP site and your desktop program then it would be a bit more trouble.
It all depends on what you are trying to do. Learning both PHP with MySQL and .NET seem good ideas as the more technologys under your belt the better.
well on my server i am using php because i never got round to asp but i can use the msinet controll to get what is returned from a webserver and i use that with php for authentication for one or two of my apps. i dont realy know what is more powerfull and so i asked this question. at the moment it seems that php is better than asp acording to the poll
