USB Installation Problem - Function Driver??
I have 2 USB ports on my system (AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.3GHz, ASUS A7VLVM Motherboard, Running Windows 2000 SP4)
My system does nt detect them correctly. So it's hard to use a printer or pen drive etc. WHenever I try to install them, I get the error shown in the attached file. Once in a hundred times it detects teh devices correctly, so I must try again and again until my device is properly detected.
How do I overcome this problem?
And what is a "Function Driver"? Where do I get it from?
Pradeep :(
Re: USB Installation Problem - Function Driver??
You should probably ask this in the General PC forum. This is for VB questions.

Hmm, have you built this system yourself? Because i got a disk with my motherboard with all the drivers for USB etc etc

Thanks Pino,
I built this system myself 4 years ago. I started facing this problem since the past one year or so. (but before that I hardly ever used the USB ports). I have the motherboard CD too. But it never asks for the CD or any file. When I uninstall the USB devices (yelow exclamation) and scan for new hardware changes, it detects them and automatically tries to install them. Finally it shows the screen in the bitmap. It never asks for any files.
There is one very peciluar thing. If I connect the device first and then turn on the computer, there is a 50% probablity that it will be detected correctly. In case it is not detected, I delete them and restart my system and once in a while it will detect them correctly.
If the USB ports are empty or teh connected devices are not powered on, this problem is sure to come up.
I recently installed windows afresh a few days ago. But the problem still persists.
Please help!
Pradeep

It could be a hradware issue I suppose, but i'm not the best at this kind of thing. I'll leave it to others to help now. I just thought i'd posts before because i'm sure thats what i had to do when i built my system!
