Nooooo firefox!!!! :(

We set up a website at work. I can get to it externally from internet explorer, but not from firefox! I get an error: Access to the port number given has been disabled for security reasons

Note that I can open it if I access the site using the internal IP.

You can't access it externally but you can access it externally with the internal IP? Thats a contracdiction in itsself. You cannot access it from the outside from the inside; you actually have to be on the outside if you get my meaning.;)

Does it work if you whistle "Low Rider" by War? That usually does the trick when I have problems with those computer thingies.

I mean that if I use the Internal IP for the computer which has the website I can access it. But if I use the external IP for the network + port number for the computer I get an error saying the port is whatever.

Could it be your windows firewall?

The reason is, is becuase when you try and access it using the external IP address, it resolves to the MAC address of the router on your network as it holds that IP address. When the router receives the request it sees that is from the internal network and doesn't apply the port forwarding to your internal server.

As a quick test to show you what I mean. Does your router have a web interface? If so use the external IP to connect as you would normally to the router web interface and you will probably get the router web interface.

It's a firewall issue. Simply add the IP to your connection settings "No Proxy" list

or, alternatively, whack your computer with a sledgehammer. Repeatedly. Problem fixed. All of them. Permanently.
