The new MSN Messenger 7.0 [SOLVED]
Yesterday I got a message, something like "Do you want to upgrade to new version", of course I did...
My previous version was 6.2 (I think)
Now it does not connect on the MSN network !
I tried many times, I even tried re-installing it (the 7.0)
I get the following error message:

Re: The new MSN Messenger 7.0
The only decent feature on MSNM 7.0 is the personal message... everything else is bloat features...
Sorry to say, but... 6.2 was better !!!

Re: The new MSN Messenger 7.0
How do I install 6.2 back ?
Where would I find it for download ?

Not too sure where to send it too though, you have to uninstall 7.0 before installing 6.2 though.
PM me your email address and i will send it you, i did a back up of it when i was messing with it, lol
Cheers.

OMG !!! this is sooo anoying ! I HATE MICROSOFT !!!
I uninstalled 7.0, and download 6.2 wich I found over here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Now when I start MSN, it tells me there's a new version (the 7.0), if I choose "No", it will not connect to the MSN network !
This is the message I get:

Re: The new MSN Messenger 7.0

Re: The new MSN Messenger 7.0
Actually, I just realized, before I had Windows Messenger, not MSN...
I want Windows Messenger back...
Stupid MSN has overriden my Windows Messenger
By the way, I googled, and found TONS of people having the SAME problem, but no one has a solution

Re: The new MSN Messenger 7.0
MSN Messenger does not overwrite Windows Messenger, they are two separate programs. Are you trying to connect to the public MSN servers or a corporate messenger server? If it's the latter, then you must use Windows Messenger, the latest version is v5.1 I think.

And actually, I never had MSN, when I started Windows Messenger, it asked me to install the new version, and it installed MSN...

Re: The new MSN Messenger 7.0
I solved my problem, finally...
I check the windows updates, and I went "Custom", otherwise it does not show up...
Windows Messenget 4.7 came up in the list, and I installed it...
Now everything is working again...

Re: The new MSN Messenger 7.0 [SOLVED]

I was actually going to suggest Res Hacking the 6.2 .exe file, and changing the version number to 7.0.0813 as that is the latest MSN, that way the MSNM service would recognise it as up-to-date :)
But, you didn't need to do that :)

Re: The new MSN Messenger 7.0 [SOLVED]
I'm comfuzed now... I don't know what I was using before, Windows Messenger or MSN...
I'm confuzed because now the program looks a little diferent than before.
But the weird thing is that I know for sure that some time before I was using Windows Messenger, I don't remember when I switched to MSN. Because now I'm thinking that it looked like MSN before not Windows Messenger (the one I have now).
Anyways... thanks for your sugestions, I may try that trilian program (but i think I tried it before), but I use only hotmail (Windows Messenger/MSN), I don't have yahoo & ICQ.

You dont need the rest, its just there incase any of your other friends happen to be using the other clients.
Im taking a whild stab at this, but does Windows Messenger come with the Windows installation disk, or is that updated seperately?

Re: The new MSN Messenger 7.0 [SOLVED]
Windows Messenger comes with windows... but the damn MSN uninstalled it...
That's why I was confuzed there for a while...
I downloaded Windows Messenger from microsoft web-site (windows update) and installed it back. It comes with Service Pack 2 also.

I'm presuming that as it is tagged [resolved] then it most likely is :)

I think the client version is hardcoded into the program.

I've tried it, and succeeded pretty well :)

Re: The new MSN Messenger 7.0 [SOLVED]
Nice :D
MSN 7 I think uses protocol version 11 though, whereas 6.2 uses 10. During the sign-in process, there is a check to see what protocol version you are using. 10 won't be supported for ever, so eventually even if you have hacked 6.2 you will be forced to use 7 :(

Some proof it can be done :)
I didn't know about the protocol version there though... thanks for informing me :)
