Ive been eyeing some 10,000 rpm drives namely the the Wester Digital Raptors and Seagate Cheetas. Does anyone have one or know a person who has one and if so do you/they like it? Im mainly wondering about sound issues and reliability.

They consume a bit more power, so on those lower wattage PSUs you might find your hardware becomes underpowered.
The drive is really only a good idea if you have large files (and your block/cluster size is large). Most of the time, if you're playing MP3s or so, any latency comes from seeking, not from reading, and seek times are minimally smaller on faster spinning drives because the head still has to move.
Thanks Dreamlax. The computer im building is going to be for my dad so i don't think hes going to be doing anything that intense where he would need a fast drive. I was thinking about dropping in two 10,000 drives and swapping my comp for the one im building him but i guess i will just keep mine and build his with one Seagate Barracuda. :thumb:
